The Venetian Well
The peach-coloured walls of this trendy taverna mark the gateway to the most romantic set-up you’ll find in Corfu town. Where trees are laced with fairy lights and tables are laden with candles, The Venetian Well could easily pass as the backdrop for the next big rom-com. Expect to find a true taste of Mediterranean magic with their exceptionally small but mighty menu. Start by ordering the cod fish and gnocchi soup, before snagging an extra-large plate of the goat cheese mesclun salad. Then, set your sights firmly on the wine menu. Where your meal goes from there is up to you, but you’ll find it hard to go wrong.

Porto Remoundo
With its vine-draped exterior, arched windows and antiquey maritime decor, Porto Remoundo is like a taverna peeled straight off a postcard. Located in the port town of Mandouki, the restaurant has a long history as a pit-stop for hungry fisherman and sailors, a role it continues, becoming something of a landmark for locals and travellers in the know. It’s no secret that we’re gluttons for old family recipes, and this place might just be our favourite… Its entire menu is dedicated to owner John’s mother, Evangelia, with simple but hearty seafood dishes like shrimp pasticada or spaghetti with mussels. If you have room for dessert, the wedges of lemon pie are big enough to sink a ship.

Rosy’s Bakery
Everyone bangs on about how fantastic Greek grub is, but proper foodies will know it’s the bakeries that really deliver the goods. In this pastry haven, founded by local kitchen goddess Rosy Soussis, you’ll find baskets brimming with chocolate-glazed buns, flaky croissants, lemon-drizzle cakes and cookies worth popping in your bag for later. Sure, our capacity for sweet treats is immeasurable, but we can’t deny that the feta-stuffed parcels are our all-time favourite here. There’s no seating – it’s a to-go affair – so stock up on goods and make a beeline to the waterfront where you can enjoy your freshly baked feast in the warmth of the morning sun.

Corfu Sailing Restaurant
Situated inside the old fortress, Corfu Sailing Restaurant makes for a quieter alternative to the centre of town’s fast-paced dining scene. Nestled on the harbour edge, dining doesn’t come much more al fresco than this – picture a wooden pergola, marble tables and overgrown potted plants. Snaking queues are common come nightfall, so we suggest swerving the crowds and saving your visit for a late lunch. That way, you can fully drink in the idyllic setting while you tuck into cheese pies, seafood pasta dishes and enormous cheesecakes. Beer lovers will delight at the 30 different labels to choose from.
