Dos Gardenias’ eco-friendly swimwear turns the tide on fast
fashion

The recent spell of sunshine has whetted our appetite for
summer. Gone is the novelty of lockdown pursuits; we’re pining for
a balmy beach, be it
Santa Monica
or
St Ives
.

Yet we get a sinking feeling when we dip into our would-be
summer wardrobes. We want to look good when we rock up on the sand,
but it’s hard – nay, impossible – to ignore the fashion industry’s
devastating effects on the planet.

Enter Dos Gardenias, the eco-conscious swimwear brand that
proves style doesn’t have to cost the Earth. Nailing the holy
trinity of quality, fit and sustainability, its pieces breeze the
transition from sunlounger to surfboard, ramping up the
aquamarine-green sex appeal along the way. Now, to celebrate World
Oceans Day, it’s inviting you to join the swimwear evolution with
the chance to win a £250 voucher.

Inspired by their global travels, model Brighdie Grounds and
designer Dorothy Day rocked the boat when they founded Dos
Gardenias in 2017. Its monochromatic palettes, bold lines, sleek
silhouettes and a utilitarian fit make for a kind of glamour that’s
at once easy and edgy.

This is swimwear designed by women, for women. Expect shelf
bras, innovative hardware and pieces sold as separates so everyone
can purchase the silhouette that best suits their body type. The
result? Dos Gardenias garms look as good paired with a blazer and
jeans as they do sea and sand.

Nevertheless, this made-in-LA label has an ethos that’s as much
about doing good as it is looking good. It’s Grace Eyelets U-neck one-piece is crafted from
ECONYL, a regenerated nylon made from old fishing nets and
industrial fabric waste. It’s soft, breathable and offers UV
protection.

We like to pair the Bandit Hooks top with the Stargazer lace-up bottoms. Both are made with
neoprene manufactured from limestone in the mountains of Japan
it’s lighter, warmer, longer-lasting and requires less energy to
produce than its crude-oil counterpart.

In fact, Dos Gardenias has thought of very detail when it comes
to keeping its women and the world happy: eyelets are rubberised so
as not to burn your skin; all packaging and tags are made from
recycled materials. What’s more, it collabs with planet-loving
charities including Waves for Water, Charity Water, Glam4Good and
Earth Day Network.

The Lowdown

It was vital to Dorothy Day and Brighdie Ground, co-designers
and founders of Dos Gardenias, to produce swimwear that would
reflect their lifestyles as well as their values regarding a zero
waste world. As a result, Dos Gardenias has constantly evolved in their
pursuit of an ever decreasing carbon footprint for the brand. Dos
Gardenias swimwear is made from industrialized plastics, carpets,
and fishing nets from the ocean. This recycled nylon yarn can be
reused over and over again.

Dos Gardenias is not just a swimwear brand. By combining their
resources with aligned charitable incentives, Dos Gardenias is
blazing a path for progress with organizations such as Waves For
Water, Charity Water, Love The Sea Plastic Free, Glam4Good and
Earth Day Network.
