To celebrate the collaboration between London-based tequila brand El Rayo and Yucatán-based artist Hola Lou, we’re giving one SUITCASE reader a bundle of goodies guaranteed to bring the effervescence of modern Mexico directly into your home.

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED.

We
might be taking some enforced time out from Mexico’s
crystalline beaches, bubbling metropolises and thrumming street
parties, but that’s not to say we’ve severed ties completely. To
celebrate the collaboration between London-based tequila brand
El Rayo and Yucatán-based artist Hola Lou, we’re giving
one SUITCASE reader a bundle of goodies guaranteed to bring the
effervescence of modern Mexico directly into your home.

We’re not cutting any corners here. Not only will the lucky
winner receive two bottles of El Rayo – one bottle of El Rayo Plata
and another of El Rayo Reposado – as well as a generous splash of
sparkling Indian tonic, they’ll also receive a set of four highball
glasses and three jubilant Hola Lou prints. Make some space on your
drinks trolley.

Those familiar with El Rayo know the deal. You don’t swirl this
pale, honeyed nectar into a fruity cocktail or oust the taste with
a lick of salt; El Rayo is silky smooth tequila, designed to be
mixed with tonic and garnished with grapefruit. You’ll want to sip
that sweet goodness with the reverence it deserves. After all, each
drop is at least eight years in the making – the outcome of a fully
hand-planted, hand-harvested, handmade production line.

Feeling spicy? Reach for a frosted glass of El Rayo Plata – a
citrus distillation with notes of pepper. Forget curfew. When
evening sets in, we’re pulling up a chair on the Plaza Rio de
Janeiro (in spirit, at least) and pouring a glass of El Rayo
Reposado, Plata’s more mellow, nutty, caramel-coloured sibling.
Less is more when it comes to mixing El Rayo; add a spritz of tonic
and let the tequila take centre stage.

It seems only right that artisanal drinks should be served in
similarly elegant ripple glassware and clinked in no-less
considered surroundings. We’re giving you a triptych of original
Hola Lou prints. These are the types of artworks that suck you in
and spit you out amid swaying palms and gentle surf, even on the
most cloudy of days. Hola Lou’s work is vaporwave meets Matisse
meets Miró, saturated with sun-baked ambers, unpolluted blues and
zesty greens of the Yucatán Peninsula.

Take some time out to savour the flavours of modern Mexico.
There’s nothing quite like sipping on a long glass of icy-cold
tequila and tonic while admiring the work of a homegrown artist. Is
there a more meaningful way to engage with Mexican culture from
home? We say: no.

Leave your sombrero at the door, and don’t even think about
bringing a pinata. This is how you throw a next-level fiesta.
“Salud” to that.
