memorable adventures make three wishes a reality: Beautiful
landscapes to explore, a comfortable bed to flop in come nightfall
and some really good food. It’s a kind of simplicity that’s
surprisingly hard to find, but after our travels around the world,
we think we’ve found a destination that has all three figured out…
Introducing Brittany.

Only a quick ferry trip across the Channel, France’s rugged
northwestern corner is an activity-packed destination offering
sparkly-bright waters, coastlines to gawp at or clamber, chic
boutique hotels and some very good seafood. If that sounds like a suitable summer
fling to you, here’s how to make a match.

After a speedy sail across the Channel, our winner will bed down
at the boutique Le Magic Hall hotel in Rennes for two nights. A slick
stay where room decor is inspired by the worlds of music, cinema
and dance, it’s a fun base from which to explore the capital’s
colourful architecture, historic markets and tip-top food.

Then it’s across to the windswept shores of the region’s Emerald
Coast, enroute to the seaside town of Saint-Lunaire for a two-night
B&B stay at the laidback Comète. This
little charmer of a four-key guesthouse is a pebble’s throw from
the windswept stretches of Grande Plage and Longchamp beach, and
its smart bistro serves up delectable French classics. We’d also
recommend exploring the quaint fishing enclaves nearby in search of
groaning platters of the region’s signature produce. Suitably
saited on seafood, simply jump back on the ferry to head home –
Breton stripes earned.
