Fed up of lockdown? Enter now to win a Cotswolds
staycation

What
makes a perfect weekend staycation? Aimless morning walks
through gnarly woodland passages, perhaps? Afternoons spent
cocooned with a book in a Chesterfield armchair? Farm-fresh dinner
at a rustic-style pub? Better still, a pub with rooms so one can
roll from the dinner table to the bedroom with ease?

We’ve teamed up with our friends at The New Inn
to give one lucky SUITCASE reader and a friend all of the above and
more. The winner will enjoy two nights at The New Inn – the
exquisite new opening from culinary duo, Baz & Fred – as well
as complimentary dinner on one evening and a meal at The Stump, its nearby
sibling restaurant, on the other.

As you might have gleaned already, The New Inn is no ordinary
“hotel”. Set in the somnolent town of Coln, right in the heart of
the Cotswolds, this restaurant with rooms takes pub grub to new
gastronomic extremes. You’re probably familiar with Baz & Fred.
They’re the brains behind some of London’s most sought-after street
food – just the thought of their oven-crisp pizza kiosk in Flat
Iron Square is making us drool. Last year they opened The Stump to
great acclaim, and now they’re back, dishing up their signature
hearty food and stylish rooms just around the corner.

The New Inn might occupy the timber framework of a 17th-century
roadside inn, but there’s nothing fusty or dated about its
interiors. Each room is completely individual and designed in
homage to The New Inn’s rustic heritage – we’re talking four-poster
beds, roll-top baths and tastefully chosen antique furnishings.
It’s the sort of place you feel bad sullying with muddy boots, but
that makes for a more-than-cushty embrace after days spent
zigzagging up and down the Coln Valley.

As the evenings close in, there’s nothing more comforting than
knowing you have a bells-and-whistles country getaway on the
horizon. Take the edge off lockdown number two; this one’s on
us.

The Lowdown

The New Inn is an old roadside inn, in the picture-postcard
village of Coln St. Aldwyns, which re-opened in September 2020
after a complete renovation. The vibrant pub in the heart of the
Cotswolds boasts 14 ensuite rooms with an open kitchen serving Baz
& Fred’s exceptional food in an informal atmosphere.
