Copenhagen has held the spotlight as a top city break for quite some time, but this island town floating in the Baltic Sea just off of the coast of Denmark and Sweden provides quiet respite from mainland Scandi cities.
Dueodde, a beach on the southernmost point of Bornholm, has a striking combination of fine white sand and emerald pine trees. A lighthouse offers endless views, and you might stumble across a disused gun battery while exploring the forest.
June and July tend to be the warmest months, with an average high of 20 degrees. But the striking colours during autumn make the colder temperatures worthwhile. September and October will give you moody beach mornings and crunchy autumn leaves to stroll through.

A 30-minute flight from Copenhagen will drop you off Rønne, the largest town on the island. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, a catamaran ride from Ystad in Sweden will get you there in an hour and 20 minutes.
