In recent years, whispers of Troncones' pristine beaches, laid-back atmosphere and vast greenery have rippled throughout those in search of a sun-filled hideaway.
A popular surfing destination, this sleepy fishing village has slowly garnered a reputation as a bohemian escape, complete with eco-friendly hotels and secluded coves.
While hotels, hostels and B&Bs have gradually popped up along the coast, the undeveloped nature of this Mexican farming area, known as an "ejido", is part of its appeal. With only around 500 residents, locals mill about their daily business, greeting everyone by name and happily advising the best places to eat, drink and surf.
Choose between a variety of beachside eco-mmodation, and spend days swimming in serene waters (we suggest heading straight for the tranquil waters of Manzanillo Bay) or surfing Troncones' legendary waves.
Those less confident riding the waves can snorkel around Troncones' colourful reefs, scuba dive or watch the release of baby sea turtles. Back on land, wander through the village streets to find family-run grocery stores, restaurants, a few bars and surf shops.
Venture a little beyond the beach to find Cascadas Artesianas, a cascading waterfall, and explore the limestone caves of nearby Majahua.

Come in June, just before the rainy season when the weather is idyllic and the swell from the south means the waves are a sight to behold.
