Nine of Our Favourite Luggage Brands

More than simply a vessel for your precious possessions, your travel companion should be a reflection of yourself. From monogrammed carry-ons to classic holdalls and statement-making cases, we've shortlisted our favourite luggage brands and their most-coveted designs.

While standing at the baggage carousel, watching an endless procession of black travel bags loop round and around, we had an epiphany - triggered by a statement-making, petroleum blue case with toffee-coloured trim.

Beyond easing the IDing of your luggage, your travel companion should be a reflection of yourself (or at least, who you are on holiday). So, from monogrammed carry-ons to classic holdalls and statement-making cases, we've shortlisted our favourite luggage brands and their most-coveted designs.

Horizn Studios

Berlin-based Horizn Studios has collaborated with everyone from DJs and illustrators to hotel groups and automotive brands since launching in 2015. Utilising smart technology to create travel accessories designed to ease long- and short-haul trips, Horizn Studios preempt your airport freakouts and dissipate them too. For when you've no phone battery, they've built-in chargers to their cases or when you spill the contents of your reusable water bottle you're all the more grateful for their water-resistant pockets.

Rimowa

The pick of luggage obsessives, Rimowa's cases are the crème de la crème - equipped with noise-reducing wheels and a top handle with a customisable length. Built for a lifetime of use, Rimowa's strong aluminium alloy shell is hard-wearing, while its polycarbonate cases ensure maximum lightness without sacrificing durability. Still, it's their limited-edition collaborations with the likes of cult streetwear label Supreme and Virgil Abloh's Off-White that keep us hooked.

Louis Vuitton

Erring on the right side of ostentation, Louis Vuitton's cases have long been a hit with the world's most fashionable; Coco Chanel carried them, as did Lauren Bacall - even Rihanna is a fan. Hard-pressed to find a more luxurious travel companion than an LV trunk, complete with LV monogram canvas, rounded leather handles and leather trim, reinforced with rivets and brass corners, we're quite taken by their rolling luggage edit (far less laborious for the upper arms).

Globe Trotter

When we next jet off, we'll be wheeling a Cruise 20″ Trolley Case from Globe-Trotter. The brand - established in 1897 in Germany - moved to Hertfordshire, England in 1932, where its luggage and leather pieces are still handcrafted today. Using artisan manufacturing techniques that date back to Victorian times and high-quality leather to create retro-inspired cases, choose an uplifting colour to modernise an otherwise classic aesthetic.

Connolly England

Founded as a saddler and shoesmith, Connolly England soon became associated with the automobile industry, supplying high-quality leather for high-profile clients including Ferrari, Rolls Royce and Jaguar, as well as the seats in the Houses of Parliament. Fast forward to today and the label has realigned, offering a luxurious collection of tailored separates and leather goods. For a distinguished weekend bag that oozes heritage chic, we're hard-pressed to find one that can outdo Connolly England's 24HR Case.

Away

With a range of polycarbonate or aluminium suitcases in various sizes to choose from, picking just one Away luggage item can feel more conflicting than Sophie's Choice. Regardless of the model you choose (we love the Bigger Carry-On), it's good to remind yourself that Away luggage is always sleek and functional - think ejectable battery packs, 360-degree rotating wheels and an interior compression system (an essential for over-packers).

ROAM

We always want what everyone else is carrying right? Well, maybe not. Sure, we've lustfully eyed up ROAM wheelies as they've raced through departures but once we read about ROAM's customisation opportunities, we wanted to create something that felt completely our own. Select a suitcase style, choosing from eleven colours - the Safari Green is particularly punchy - and then customise everything from your wheel hubcaps to the handle. With hundreds of combinations to choose from, here's hoping your a decisive type.

Antler

Lightweight and hard-wearing are paramount adjectives to drop when making any luggage-related purchasing decision. Antler gets a double tick from us every time. Its classic, soft-sided pieces are great for when you need a little extra room to cram any extra purchases into your already brimming case (Antler's compression packing cubes are a worthwhile investment for such eventualities). Then there's the hard-shell design options, softened by whimsical colourways. We're rolling out the cabin-sized Clifton in sage and a medium version of the same model in cornflower the second its new edit drops in February 2020.

Floyd

With wheels inspired by 70s skateboarding culture and Venice Beach, Floyd's suitcases are an easy sell - its devout customer list of Cali girls and chilled out LA bros can attest to its popularity. Inspired by the colour palette of Southern California, these joyful suitcases are an ode to free-spirited travel - but that doesn't mean forgoing practicality. With a body crafted from lightweight, impact-resistant Makrolon polycarbonate, seamlessly smooth wheels and multiple interior compartments, Floyd cases make staying organised on the go a cinch.
