Creativity In Bloom: Inside Hotel Corazón, A Mallorcan Stay Dreamt Up By Artists

There are some destinations that feel discovered, and others that feel dreamt into being. Between the village of Deià (a former haunt of Robert Graves and Anaïs Nin, among others) and the citrus-scented coastal town of Sóller in Mallorca’s north lies a hotel that falls into the latter camp. Hotel Corazón is a 15-room hideaway housed in an 18th-century finca; a creative bolthole that blends bohemian spirit with mountain majesty, set against a backdrop of the Tramuntana range. There are no TVs here. No hotel rules. Just freedom, friendship and food grown metres from your table.

And it’s here that luggage brand Horizn Studios chose to launch its new Dusk Yellow luggage colourway – a sun-warmed shade inspired by Mallorca’s slow-burning sunsets.

British-born, Mallorca-based photographer Kate Bellm and artist Edgar Lopez dreamed up the Corazón as a living canvas: a Mallorcan design hotel built for collaboration and creation. Bellm missed the kind of electric, creative energy that so often crackles through the streets of major cities – and looked to bring a dose of it to her sun-kissed home.

The result is a place where freedom reigns. Bellm’s eye for cosmic dreaminess plays across Corazón’s look and feel. Her psychedelic-hued images of nature and nudes are right at home here, complementing the sensually curved archways, translucent, dusky pink bed canopies and bifolding windows overlooking swaying palm fronds. Guests move barefoot between cactus gardens, sound baths, jam sessions and “spontaneous happenings”. Rooms are eclectically decorated and deeply personal. New in 2024 were three garden-view hideouts – La Paz, Cowboy and Monte Kush – tucked between fig trees and headily scented wild rosemary.

This is a property that straddles dimensions, acting as many things at once – a hotel, yes, but also a farm, a home, and a celebration of artistic lives fully lived. The walls are alive with work from Corazón’s Artists in Residence programme. Bellm’s own psychedelic nudes and Lopez’ sculpture garden meet ceramics by Oikos Studio and paintings by Abel Burger. It’s a living exhibition – one where guests can sip rosé in tiger-print lounges and feel themselves slowly drop back into a primal, natural rhythm marshalled by the movements of the cosmos and marked by the slow journey of the sun across the pale blue Mallorcan sky.

The hotel’s farm-to-table restaurant is one of the property’s brightest stars – both figuratively and literally, with this season having seen the grand reveal of its new al fresco dining terrace. Redesigned by London-based Tatjana von Stein, it now shimmers in a palette of celestial pinks, reds, oranges and mustardy yellows. Curved benches with sun motifs hug red marble tables (hand-carved by a local stonemason, using two types of pink marble), while tiger-print rugs and dice-glass chandeliers add a bohemian, 70s-esque drama to the adjacent conservatory. It’s retro, theatrical and wildly inviting.

In the kitchen, head chef Eliza Parchanska has stepped fully into her own. A Polish-born, Madrid-trained chef, she joined the hotel in its first season under Grace Berrow, and now conducts the symphony of edible flowers, pickles, ferments and just-harvested greens that makes up the vibrant, Mediterranean menu. A sun-kissed late-afternoon lunch on the breezy new terrace might include homemade houmous strewn with fresh garden herbs, a shredded kale salad studded with roasted dates and mung bean sprouts, and a fried chicken sandwich served beside pickled slaw. Much of the produce is grown on-site by farmer-in-residence Emma Phillips, who cultivates over 50 garden beds of organic bounty using regenerative farming techniques – from tomatoes and aubergines to rare citrons and peppery nasturtiums. Anything else is sourced from local organic suppliers.

But it’s not just food and art that fuel that soul around here: wellness, too, is woven intuitively into the rhythm of slow-paced days. Among guests’ options are twice-weekly yoga classes, meditative sound experiences held outdoors beneath pine trees, and a treatment menu from Paola Pellegrino, who combines lymphatic massage, face yoga and gua sha into flowing sculptural sessions. Even the skincare is on-brand – Bellm has created a collection of Hotel Corazón beauty products using ingredients that capture the smells of an island summer, such as wild olive, rose and vetiver, all bottled in reusable glass. You’ll find them in each room.

Whether you come with a sketchbook, a camera or a yoga mat in your rolling carry-on, life at Corazón moves at the pace of your curiosity. There’s a softness to it all – a sensuality in the stone floors and sun-warmed towels; in the fragrance of citrus trees and woodsmoke; in the way silence settles like a second skin in the tranquilising afternoon heat. It’s less a hotel stay, more, a creative reset – a place to put down your phone, pick up your pen and remember what inspiration feels like.
