Cornish Cream

You know you’re going to want to haul home a few bags of Cornish fudge, homemade honeycomb or a bottle of Cornish lust (an enjoyably saccharine strawberry and cream liquor). If it’s more traditional fudge you’re sweet tooth’s hankering after, try Myrings Cornish Fudge, tucked in a small stone-fronted cottage farther along the street.

The Common Wanderer

Coastal ambles call for decent outdoor clothing. Stock up at The Common Wanderer, where clothing and camping essentials are both sustainable and fashion-forward, with brands including Finsterre and Fjällräven. If it’s more of a traditional fisherman’s sweater that you’re after (a great souvenir, no doubt), head to Atlantic Shore Knitwear farther along Fore Street – it uses 100 per cent British wool.

St Ives Ceramics

Established in 1990 by potter John Bedding, this is one of the UK’s principal ceramics galleries, showing contemporary artists as well as holding a collection of master potters from the 20th century – the section dedicated to pottery from Mashiko, Japan is especially good. Many pieces are available to buy. Like this? Head across town to Gaolyard Studios, which Bedding opened in 1998 as a co-operative for potters.
