This coastal walk is a perfect way to spend a few sunny hours in Sydney. Approximately 6km, the walk takes about one to two hours to complete, and offers many things to see and do along the way. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a glimpse of whales playing off the shore. A ‘yay, we made it’ drink at Coogee Pavilion is a must when you finish your walk.

One of Sydney’s best markets, Eveleigh Market is host to some of New South Wales’ best farmers and artisan food producers. Held every Saturday from 8AM to 1PM, chat to the friendly stall owners and pick up breakfast, lunch or even your groceries for the week.

Housing some of the best modern artwork in Sydney, the MCA is an art gallery you need to have on your list. With a range of international and local artists, world-renowned exhibitions and free guided tours, it’s a great spot to take in some art right at Circular Quay. We suggest heading to the MCA Café for a glass of wine with spectacular views if you’re in need of a break.

This might seem a bit of a no brainer, but there is no point in visiting Sydney without stopping by its most iconic landmark. A hub for music, theatre and culture in the city, it is a significant example of the expressionist architectural style and is also home to four of the most important companies in the city’s performing arts arena: Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

One of the busiest beaches in the world, and also one of Australia’s most visited tourist sites, Bondi Beach is a must-see, purely to soak up some of that laid-back Aussie beach culture, if not the sun. About seven kilometres east of the CBD, the beach isn’t all just about people watching: once there, make sure to visit the 1929 landmark Bondi Pavilion – a former bathhouse that has been transformed into a vibrant community centre with a theatre, gallery, shops and a restaurant – and the Bondi Icebergs Baths.

It’s all very well admiring this iconic bridge from far – especially when coupled with the Opera House – but if you climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, you’ll be rewarded with views of the city from a whole different angle. More than a kilometre long, the bridge is another iconic Australian landmark, that carries traffic from Sydney’s CBD to the North Shore. The 130-metre climb is pretty exhausting, but it’s worth it.

For a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of the city head to the Sydney Tower Eye. At 304m, is the tallest structure in the city with the second-highest observation deck in the southern hemisphere and of course jaw-dropping views.

On the water’s edge, just behind the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Botanical Gardens is a great spot to get some reprieve from the hustle and bustle after a day spent viewing the city’s iconic harbour sites. Once there, there is plenty to do from visiting art exhibitions to practising yoga, but the ideal way to experience the gardens is to take a stroll and enjoy the peace and quiet.
