Walker Hotel Tribeca, New York, US

Reigniting its neighbourhood’s sex appeal, the Walker Hotel Tribeca offers a loft-style stay just off Broadway. Rub shoulders with locals who drop in for Blue Bottle Coffee or head to the subterranean speakeasy – this is the roaring 20s, after all.

Tribeca's sex appeal has never died out, but beyond The Roxy Hotel, the area has been slightly lacking in exciting places to stay - until now. Enter Walker Hotel Tribeca, a suave space that reimagines a former ribbon and button factory dating back to the late 19th century. Whether you're planning a staycation or visiting from farther afield, this is the perfect spot to have in your back pocket.

Rooms

Each of the 171 rooms here feels like a sleek loft with a cushy bed and views of the Empire State Building and across downtown. Nuzzle under crisp linen sheets and watch a movie as you order snacks to your room. When it's time to prep for an evening of cocktails at Macao Trading Co. around the corner, concrete basin sinks stocked with C.O. Bigelow products and marble rain showers tucked behind sliding barn doors await.

What's for breakfast?

While breakfast options are available in the hotel's lobby lounge, we're partial to the Blue Bottle Coffee stand near the front entrance, where Tribeca locals drift in and out to grab a cold brew en route to their gallery or start-up space. If you've got to send a few emails first thing, grab a pain au chocolat and an oat-milk cappuccino and pitch up in the mid-century-style lobby.

How about lunch and dinner?

The Restaurant, opening soon, will serve creative, seasonal meals accompanied by organic wines in a space crafted by Craig Shillito of Cycle Projects, who are responsible for other NYC favourites such as Lilia and abcV. Earth-toned and done up in raw materials, the decor beautifully reflects the eco-conscious and plant-heavy menu. In the Walker Lobby, you'll find a 50-seat lounge serving up lighter fare and cocktails throughout the day.

Is there a bar?

Yes, but keep it hush-hush. The hotel's subterranean cocktail bar designed by John McCormick Design (behind Maison Premiere) will be the ultimate accompaniment to the new roaring 20s, with cocktails inspired by the Gatsby era. With Paul's Cocktail Lounge and Macao Trading Co. literally steps away, this underground bar built into a vault dating back to the Victorian era is the perfect spot to start a weekend night with a bang (and to show off a cool new find to your friends). For something more low-key, the cellar reading room serves up cocktails that make the ideal tipple before heading up to your room.

Amenities

The 11th-floor terrace bar (opening soon) looks over Midtown and straight down Broadway. You may notice a few cheeky winks to astrology on the cocktail menu - order a drink with your star sign in mind. If you need to sweat it all out after a night bar-hopping through Tribeca, the in-house gym is on the lower level floor for easy access. The gorgeous lobby is kitted out with Pierre Jeanneret loungers and a library selling art and travel books by Phaidon and Assouline, while the cushy leather sofas framing a fireplace act as a centrepiece to the room.

Things you should know

The hotel is just off Broadway, so shopaholics should make this their go-to for easy access to SoHo's boutiques.

Within a short walk you'll find…
