Where to Shop in Hastings, East Sussex

Hastings is a haven for the thoughtful shopper. Below are our favourite independent boutiques.

Much of Hastings' edgy allure lies in its affordability. For the many artisans and makers driven out of London by rising rents and rapid gentrification, Hastings offers a supportive haven. Within this coastal stretch of East Sussex, you'll find a staggering number of beautifully-curated, independent boutiques, jewellers helmed by the jeweller themselves, and locally-made wares like delicate soaps and curios. We're particularly partial to the vintage homewares at the treasure trove that is A G Hendy & Co, and a slow window shop up and down George Street.

Self-confessed TFTW (aka “Twit From Tunbridge Wells”) Tessa Sambrook set up shop in St Leonards 13 years ago when it was “decidedly edgier”. Her petite store is a treasure trove of personally curated vintage jewellery, furniture, art and curios, all chosen to represent quality at a reasonable price and sourced from within the UK.
