THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED.
Excuse the cliché, but when we describe Switzerland as a "winter wonderland", we mean it. From its frosted lakeside cities where modern design hotels and puritanically sparse galleries sidle up beside neo-classical marvels to its snow-carpeted Alpine villages, laced together by slick-as-a-whip railways and speckled by state-of-the-art Snow Sports Hotels, Switzerland is a country that never fails to charm the woollen socks off winter visitors.
Hold on tight. To celebrate the launch of Vol. 32: The Homegrown Issue, we've put together a corker of a prize so you can experience it all for yourself. The lucky winner will start with two nights at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse in Zurich, before zipping up to Hotel Nira Alpina in St Moritz/Silvaplana where they'll soar through timeless glacial landscapes aboard the iconic Bernina Express (first class, naturally) before returning home and recounting it all to their nearest and dearest. The prize will be redeemable for a year, starting from the 1st January 2021. Oh, and just to add, we're throwing in return flights courtesy of SWISS too.
This bumper prize kicks off with two nights in Zurich, a city that proves you really can have it all - rippling lakes, thrumming bars, farm-to-table restaurants and a spiky, mountainous backdrop. Hot hotels, too. At the Europaallee, just ten minute walk away from the main station, sits 25hours Hotel Langstrasse. Stacked with the works of local artists and crowned by a rooftop sauna, it's not only one of the city's foremost Design Hotels but the best spot for warming up and winding down.
Days here will be spent hopping from one museum to the next - we're sorting you out with a complimentary Zurich Card so you won't have to spend a penny on museum entry or public transport for the duration of your trip - before settling down for an evening meal at one Zurich's lip-smacking restaurants. No need to call for the bill; we've put aside a couple of vouchers. The pleasure is ours.
With a heavy heart and even heavier belly, it's time to wave goodbye to Zurich and hello to the glitzy echelons of St Moritz. Again, we've taken care of transport by sorting you out with an all-in-one train pass so you won't be out of pocket when you alight in glittering St. Moritz. Nestled among its famous, powder-blasted pistes you'll find Nira Alpina, a devilishly decadent Snow Sports Hotel with sweeping views out over glassy lakes and frost-tipped crags.
It's from here that you'll set forth into the mountains aboard the Bernina Express - an epic railway that scores 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and climbs up to heights of 2,253m above sea level, before landing amid the waving palms of Tirano in Italy.
We're sending you there and back in first class. Wedge yourself into the train's cushty carriage and enjoy the ride, glass of champagne in hand, as you take in screensaver-worthy landscapes before being deposited back in Nira Alpina's luxurious embrace. This is how to do Switzerland SUITCASE-style.
To enter, first follow @suitcase and @rhaetischebahn on Instagram, and then answer the following question correctly: how many bridges does the Bernina Express pass through? Leave your answer as a comment on this post.
Good luck. We'll pick the winner after the competition closes on 23rd December.
