The
The
Carry On is our monthly round up of our favourite travel
items we’d happily haul from Stansted to Seville,
Heathrow to Hydra.
Be it a functional fedora or the latest in skincare science, we’ve
probably got it in our carry on. Riffing on the adage “if you can
think it, you can be it” – we’re saying: “If you can jam it in your
carry on… you can bring it.” Catchy.
Note: weight restrictions and other practicalities do not
apply.
Soleil Blanc
Tom Ford
We’ve all felt that post-holiday ebb a week after returning from
a summer sojourn. Conjuring up scents of remote islands
where
summer lasts all year, Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc fragrance will
transport you straight back to sandy pastures. For those in pursuit
of sun and luxury, this is certain to be a new favourite fragrance.
Considering Soleil Blanc is available at all major airports and
duty-free stores worldwide, there’s ample opportunity to stock up
on this bergamot and coco de mer blend. We’ve one in every
port.
Hair Accessories
Pico
Founded by Annie-Marie Pico, this kitsch Danish jewellery and
accessories brand has reverted us to kid-in-candy-store levels of
gluttony. It’s also caused us to style our barnetts as we did in
junior school; more is more, unicorns are in and bows are
definitely on trend. Grab as many barrettes, slides and claw clips
as you can carry and head out with a rainbows-worth of sparkle in
your hair.
Blotting paper
MUJI
Where there is heat, there is sweat. Keep your complexion matte
with these handy blotting sheets, mopping up excess oil and
minimising shine between holiday selfies. Made from pulp paper, the
nifty sheets absorb oil while keeping your make-up in tact – an
industry secret we’ve spilled to everyone we know. Pop them in your
carry on for beach
trips,
festivals… whatever.
Sage Bundle
Earl of East
Some might deem travelling with a sage bundle “hippie dippie”,
but you won’t find scientists among them. Sage clears bacteria in
the air and research suggests that burning this fragrant herb can
clear up to 94 per cent of airborne bacteria in a space. It also
releases negative ions – which put people in a positive mood – when
burned. California White Sage is what you want (so put down that
sage you found in your kitchen pantry at once) to use to cleanse
your home/ hotel room/ Hyundai rental. Bad vibes, be gone.
Lo Rox Aligned Travel Foam Roller
OPTP
After a
long flight (or any journey involving an extended period of
sitting) foam rolling is a godsend. Helping to elongate muscles and
provide a regenerative massage, foam rolling manipulates the fascia
(the body’s protective layer of connective tissue that wraps every
muscle) helping to relieve tension. Stretch it out in your hotel
room for five or ten minutes and use on any part of your body.
Thigh Rescue
Megababe
Summer chafe is up there with our greatest grievances. This
anti-friction stick by Megababe is ideal for runners, hikers,
beach-goers… whoever. Glide the easy-to-apply stick over your arms
or thighs to counter roughness and chafing. Megababe Thigh Rescue’s
natural ingredients – aloe vera, grape-seed oil, ginger root and
pomegranate-seed extract – leave a fresh, subtle scent which,
thankfully, help to counteract BO.
Hydration for Flying
ElectroFlytes
Staying hydrated while flying is paramount, but drinking gallons
of water in-flight isn’t always the most appealing of plans. Most
people think hydration is about total fluid intake but, according
to Electroflytes, it’s actually about how your body is able to
manage internal fluids that ensures proper hydration. (FYI: you
start to dehydrate almost immediately after take off and on a
10-hour flight men can lose up to 2L of water and women up to 1.6
litres). Presented in an “ionic” state, ElectroFlytes – an
all-natural liquid blend of more than 72+ electrolytes – are
absorbed more quickly and at a deeper, cellular level, helping you
to stay properly hydrated for the duration of your trip. Pass ’em
here.
Departure Travel Kit
Aesop
Long hours in transit can fatigue the skin. Keep fresh-faced
with these seven travel-sized essentials by Aesop. To cleanse and
moisturise hands, call on Resurrection Rinse-Free Hand Wash and the
skin-softening Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm. Maintain optimum
hydration for the skin with Blue Chamomile Facial Hydrating Masque
and Immediate Moisture Facial Hydrosol, and stay fresh via
cardamon-hinted toothpaste followed by alcohol-free mouthwash with
extracts of anise, clove and spearmint. The “Arrival” kit is also a
fantastic quartet to help weary travellers revive once back on
land.
