The Carry On: June 2020

The Carry On: June 2020

The Carry On is our monthly round-up of our favourite travel
items we’d happily haul from Stansted to Seville,
Heathrow to Hydra. Be it a functional fedora or the latest in
skincare science, we’ve probably got it in our carry on. Riffing on
the adage “if you can think it, you can be it”, we’re saying: “If
you can jam it in your carry on… you can bring it.” Catchy.

Note: weight restrictions and other practicalities do not
apply.

Waist-up dressing, travel-friendly totes and the T-shirt that
will make you feel as good as you look

Bloom Collar

La Veste

We’re suckers for a pretty statement collar, which is exactly
how we landed on this ladylike rendition. The holy grail in
waist-up dressing, this detachable collar pulls its weight at work
– drawing the eye up – and on the weekend. Based in Spain, La Veste
is the go-to brand for experimental and eclectic dressers, as the
grids of the Insta-famous duo behind the brand (stylist Blanca Miró Scrimieri and designer Maria de la Orden) can attest.

Square Chain Necklace

Nialaya Jewelry

The BBC adaptation of Sally Rooney’s coming-of-age novel Normal
People has made us re-evaluate many things – our shoddy
communication skills for one, and also: should we maybe get bangs
again? – but nothing has come close to the in-depth conversations
we’ve been having over Connell Waldron’s accessory of choice. Hours
have been spent/ lost trying to convince our significant others
that a silver chain is summer 2020 personified and 100-per-cent,
totally them. Meanwhile, the @connellschain‘s dedicated Instagram account has
topped 180k (at time of writing). We’re nabbing this Nialaya
Jewelry chain while stocks last. A summer trend if ever there was
one.

Panama Zip Currency Case

Smythson

Endlessly practical, this currency case is one of our favourite
travelling companions. It’s a refined way to keep money, receipts
and train tickets (or whatever you like, really) organised on
vacation, and we’re steadily building out our colourful catalogue.
Crafted from saffiano leather with a contemporary flash of colour
across its external zip details, it’s lightweight, flexible and
hard-wearing. A must-buy for those upcoming escapades.

Oversized Shopper Bag

curated by.

Think of all that you’ll carry in this take-everywhere tote.
Whether you use it for farmers’ market hauls, at the beach or for
running errands, curated by.’s reusable cotton carry-all goes
everywhere you want it to; it’s a lifer. The versatile, XXL canvas
bag, with a contrasting front pocket made from recycled nylon, is
sustainably minded both in its creation and function. It’s gotten
us through a few ropey over-packing situations (it’s oh-so roomy)
and its long body makes it perfect for carrying home calla lilies
from the flower market (we road-tested this one in Cape Town – yes,
we’re romantic like that).

Thirsty Hands Hand Mask

Nails Inc

Wave “ta ta” to dry hands with Thirsty Hands by Nails Inc. The
fun monstera-leaf printed gloves are engineered to rejuvenate and
intensely hydrate tired, delicate skin (and make for great
Instagram bait too) thanks to a blend of plant extracts, shea
butter and vitamin E. Unfold the gloves from the foil packaging,
slip them on to your hands and fasten around your wrist. Sit tight
for 15-20 minutes then remove and gently pat in the excess essence.
To finish, put your hands in the air, wave ’em like you just don’t
care, and you are done.

Travel Case

Veronique Gabai

Former CEO of Vera Wang and Global Brand President of Estée
Lauder’s fragrance division, Veronique Gabai is the mastermind
behind some of the world’s most famous fragrances, so donning one
of her namesake brand’s scents is akin to a beauty badge of honour.
We’re wearing ours on our pulse points (naturally) and – thanks to
the ornate gold-tone pendant fragrance holder’s nattiness – around
our necks. Thread the metal-clad vile (10ml replacements are
available for £60) onto your favourite necklace or slip into your
handbag and step out.

Lip Fetish Lip Balm

Pat McGrath Labs

Two words: like butter. Marrying the nourishment of a balm and
the sheer colour of a tint, Lip Fetish is formulated with a
hydrating concoction of antioxidants, emollients and vitamins.

Depositing a diffused wash of colour that won’t bleed or melt,
while conditioning your lips against wind and chapping, Pat McGrath
Labs products are seriously hard-working (a bit like the woman
herself – after all, McGrath does create looks for up to 80 runway
shows a year). Kiss-worthy lips in a single swipe? We’re sold.
