Jones and Lucy Carr-Ellison, the duo behind Tart London, the
London catering company favoured by top fashion
brands, are opening their first permanent venture in Belgravia this
summer. Eccleston Place will be a multipurpose venue incorporating
a restaurant, retail space and fashion-photography studio, and
events space in partnership Tom Warren, founder of Lock
Studios.
Their recent trip to Marrakech
came about while on the hunt for the perfect tiles for the
venture’s bathrooms. Not only did they find the tiles, they came
back laden with everything from hand-painted coffee cups, platters,
salad bowls, candle sticks, plates, vases, blown-glass beakers,
wooden boards, soup spoons, lemon-wood utensils and silk rugs.
Marrakech
is one of those places you return to time and time again, with each
visit throwing up some new delight. We got the Tart girls to share
their shopping secrets.

Mustapha Blaoui
Aladdin’s cave of treasures. Three storeys are fit to bursting
with silk rugs, cushions, gold and silver lights, multicoloured
platters, hand-crafted tables, desks, mirrors and chairs,
paintings, urns, candle sticks and tea-chests – not to mention the
ceiling alit with a sea of lamps of all different shapes and sizes.
We spent hours digging through all the wonders while drinking mint
tea with the kindly shop owners.
