Italians know how to eat, so expect to roll home after a Pietrasanta visit. Unlike Tuscany's game-rich interior, though, this coastal city eschews the hearty venison stews and wild boar ragùs of the province's rolling hills in favour of a somewhat lighter, fresher take on the classics. Sure, there are steaks (and hefty reds to accompany them), but we're more into the town's seafood offering. Whatever camp you fall into (vegetarians, don't despair - we've got you covered), you'll find sophisticated trattorias and hole-in-the-wall favourites throughout the town. Here are three of our favourite spots for eating in Pietrasanta.

A 10-minute drive from Pietrasanta is this convivial seafood restaurant in Lido di Camaiore. What first opened as a pit stop for weary marble merchants in the 50s has evolved into a local institution known for its extensive fish menu.

Roll from lunch at Il Posto to dinner at this trattoria, just across the road. The menu here is verbal, so make sure to listen up when the waiter comes to your table. Eating a selection of vegetable-packed traditional Tuscan dishes spread across a red gingham tablecloth, you'll feel like you're on an Italian grandmother's terrace.

Sip your way through an A to Z of regional deliciousness (there are 10,000 bottles in the wine cellar) while eating butter-soft steaks at this cult Pietrasanta restaurant.
