Café Cafetal
It was the coffee trade that first put this “hidden port” on the map, as plantations cropped up in the southern Sierra Madre in the late 1800s. The last shipment left in 1975, but today you can still sip Puerto’s caffeine-spiked heritage at the beachfront Café Cafetal, which serves organic, shade-grown coffee from its award-winning plantation Finca las Nieves. Order the nitro cold brew before joining a trip to owner Gustavo Boltjes’ farm, where waterfalls and rivers feed Arabica beans. Seed-to-cup talks, tastings and overnight stays are on offer.
