bar
Calle 9+1
Medellin, Colombia
Calle 9+1 is a favourite among hipster locals and adventurous travellers. Any weekend night you can find a lineup of impressive international DJs getting the colourful crowd hot and heavy in a warehouse-like setting. Do it as the locals do and buy a bottle of aguardiente (the local liquor which tastes a bit like aniseed) and sip shots through the night.
bar
Salon Málaga
Medellin, Colombia
If you want to see where locals, or Paisas, come for their after-work drinks or a quiet game of dominoes, look no further than Salon Malaga. This no-frills bar has walls adorned with prints and photographs of Colombian celebrities through the ages and offers a variety of national beers on draft. Settle in one of the many metal chairs or flip through the classic jukebox, filled with vintage Latin classics.

Cerveceria 3 Cordilleras
Medellin, Colombia
To embrace your inner craft beer nerd, visit Medellin’s best brewers. Nestled in the neighbourhood of Industriales, you’ll feel transported to Brooklyn or Barcelona, wandering graffiti-covered warehouses before arriving at the large, modern brewery. Unfortunately, they function as a tasting room and not a bar, so their hours are limited to a few evenings a week. On the other hand, that means you’ll get a tour and great deal on tasting all their beers, such as La Rosada or Negra.
