Cycle and Splash

Take a bike out to one of the Kaisertal Valley’s three lakes – Hechtsee, Hintersteiner See and Thiersee. Our favourite is Hechtsee, the quietest of them all. Once there, grit your teeth and take the plunge. Arriving on two wheels means you’ll dodge the parking fee but you do have to pay for the pleasure of an icy dip, so be sure to bring some change.

Bad Häring Health Trail

This trail spills out from a yin-yang stone sculpture up in the forest and pours down into the valley with stops at natural sulphur springs, wooden “relaxation beds” and the verdant Haslach Moor, en route. Try a spot of Kneipp hydrotherapy – essentially the act of placing your feet under icy glacial streams which is a favourite post-hike cool down method for hardy Tiroleans. Finish with a visit to the Kaiserlodge hotel’s mountain spa to soothe aching muscles.

Wildbichl Wildlife Park

Committed nature junkies can take a tree trail through the forest with a guide at Wildbichl Wildlife Park, an 80,000m sq reserve of unspoilt mountain trails that’s heaving with native animals. Along the way, keep your binoculars at close reach and your wits about you. Elks, ibexes, lynxes, chamois, wild boars and mouflons are just some of the fauna you’re likely to spot darting through the thicket.
