The Sorting Office

It isn’t often that you can ask anyone in a town where to get the best coffee and they all give you a unanimous answer. The Sorting Office is the undisputed mecca of non-alcoholic beverages in town, with oat-milk lattes, fresh fruit smoothies and hot chocolates so evocatively flavourful that you’ll be dreaming of log fires and decorating the Christmas tree in midsummer. As the name suggests, The Sorting Office was where parcels from the post office were once sorted and packed before delivery. The old post office is now a barber’s shop, but the hatch between the two is still in operation, so the clientele can now benefit from a steady stream of hot drinks delivered through the sorting hatch while they get a fresh trim.

Driftwood Spars

After a tough day of surfing, you can practically roll out of the sea into the Driftwood Spars. The Driftwood Spars has had a varied and colourful history. The spars that the pub is named after were salvaged from shipwrecks in the 17th century. Since then the building has gone through various reincarnations as a tin-mining warehouse, chandlery, fish cellar and sailmaking loft. Nowadays it’s the perfect place to enjoy a cold pint in the beer garden, rubbing shoulders with surfers, rowers and local musicians.

Schooners

We’ve all got that one spot that we love for people-watching, but Schooners takes it to a whole new level. Perched above Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes’s most popular beach, it’s an ideal spot for a sundowner while watching the sun set behind surfers catching their final waves of the day. The food isn’t bad either. We particularly recommend Sunday brunch.

The Taphouse

You might not associate Cornwall with an up-and-coming music scene, but The Taphouse is here to challenge that. It showcases local artists and DJs but also having played host to big names such as George Ezra and Ben Howard, so a great atmosphere is always guaranteed here. There’s also an extensive selection of Cornish gins on offer to sample as you’re toe-tapping.
