In its infancy, Juliet’s Garden was quite literally a garden. As it has grown in popularity the venue has expanded too and now you can not only enjoy fresh seafood with a roof over your head, but you can even stay on site in the summer houses. The walk from Hugh Town is just long enough to build up an appetite for the fantastic range of sandwiches and homemade cakes on offer for lunch. The birds here are so tame that sparrows will eat crumbs out of your hands.

The Ruin Beach Café is al fresco dining at its most spectacular. Lounge in the shade of palm trees enjoying unparalleled views over the island of St Martin’s. Food here is simple and caters well to families, but the wood-fired pizza is fantastic.

With an enviable location at the Hell Bay Hotel, The Crab Shack entertains hungry visitors who watch the pot-to-plate process unfold. Don an apron and prepare to get messy, this is not the spot for a first date.

If you thought that ready meals were all lukewarm spaghetti bolognese and stringy macaroni cheese, think again. This ready-meal restaurant serves scallops, lobster thermidor and lemon meringue roulade to round it all off, all to be enjoyed from the comfort of your home. Occasionally it hosts feast evenings which are incredibly popular: the service is excellent. Pre-booking is absolutely essential.

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that drinking wine makes you hungry. Round off your tour of the Star Castle Hotel’s vineyard with a good old feed from one of the two hotel restaurants: The Castle Dining Room and The Conservatory Restaurant. The Conservatory Restaurant is a delight on a sunny day and specialises in seafood whilst The Castle Dining Room exudes old-world charm. Much of the produce in each comes from the hotel’s own garden. It’s a fantastic place to treat yourself on the last night of a trip – the bill won’t be small, but it is worth it.
