M Lodge

M Lodge

Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, France

Ask five different skiers what their favourite alpine destination is and we'll bet our precious lift passes you'll get five firm votes for Les Trois Valées. After a day spent whizzing down the slopes, there's no better feeling than crashing at a cosy, chic pad. Step forward, M Lodge. Sitting pretty in the tranquil town of Saint-Martin-De-Belleville, the property has 25 guest rooms done up with timber-clad walls, faux-fur headboards, stone floors and floor-to-ceiling windows flaunting dramatic mountain vistas. You'll also find purchasable artworks by native artist and gallerist Amélie du Chalard, walk-in-wardrobe spaces and Milky Way light installations. Downstairs, a slick spa comes complete with a well-equipped gym, treatment rooms, sauna and swimming pool - sore muscles, be gone. The pièce de résistance, however, has got to be the dining room, with its mirrored ceilings, marble walls and mish-mash of snug seating choices - and an appropriately elevated food and drink offering.

The countdown to May 2023 is officially on, when our favourite aparthotel group is set to shake up Berlin's accommodation landscape with the opening of Locke at East Side Gallery. Located in the vibrant Friedrichshain quarter, the new outpost's 176 apartments, stylish co-working spaces, sophisticated bar and in-house restaurant will all carry Locke's legendary high-spec finish, plus other design details reflective of the capital of cool's fabric. Guesthouse, Margate

No.42 by GuestHouse

Margate, Kent

Margate is in for a treat next summer, when the newest GuestHouse acquisition will fling open its seafront doors. Following the successful rollout of their Bath and York outposts, brothers Tristan, James and Tom Guest have been busy restoring No.42, a beautiful 18th-century townhouse. The intimate 21-key stay will feature a rooftop bar, beachfront café, swanky spa and a restaurant serving all sorts of seasonal delights. In true GuestHouse style, interiors have been brought to life through collaboration with local artists: expect bed valances and ceilings upholstered by Jo and Jess of Margate Design Collective and nature-inspired illustrations by printmaker Laura Ann Coates. The icing on the cake? Bedrooms come armed with turntables, hand-picked reading materials and beach essentials. (Also, whisper it, we've heard of a Brighton launch pegged for late 2023.)

The Hoxton, Edinburgh

hotel

The Hoxton

Edinburgh, Scotland

It was just a matter of time before The Hoxton set its sights on the Scottish capital - and we couldn't be more delighted about it. The property, which will be the hip hotel chain's fifth UK outpost, will house 211 rooms spread across 10 stitched-together Georgian townhouses. Interiors, helmed by Ennismore, will sport fun pops of colour, the type of textures you want to touch and abstract artworks. The bolthole will also have event spaces, an elegant restaurant and in-house gallery, all at guests' disposal. But that's not all: the opening comes with the added bonus of Hox Homes - a handful of self-contained three-bedroom apartments. Your 2023 staycation destination, sorted.

Broadwick Soho

Soho, London

Billed to launch in summer 2023, Broadwick Soho's 57 individually designed rooms will include nine suites and a super-slinky penthouse suite. But it's the Sicilian-inspired terrace restaurant that we'll be making a beeline for at aperitivo hour. Marrying the gritty glamour of Seventies Soho with the opulence of an eccentric British townhouse, Martin Brudnizki's first foray into hotel design is as good as they come, bringing a fresh new beat to the ever-warm embrace of London's liveliest corner.

Hotelito by MUSA

Guerrero, Mexico

Hotelito by MUSA - a 13-bedroom retreat - rests on one of the most pristine beaches we've ever laid eyes on: picture marble-white sands fringed by dancing palms and a labyrinthine jungle we'd happily get lost in. With the judicious use of tropical hardwood and local stone ensuring the building merges seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, it's little wonder this Mexican newbie has made it into the Design Hotels network. Crafted with creatives in mind, each of its standalone live-work studios has been purposefully designed so that you can work on your craft and live just upstairs. And if you're still not sold, there's also a saltwater bio-pool, bike park and beach club to bounce around in.

Svart

Meløy, Norway

So, this place doesn't actually open until 2024, but it would be rude not to spotlight the world's first energy-positive (ie producing more energy than it consumes) hotel. Situated in the Norwegian Arctic Circle, Svart will stand on wooden piles on the waters of the Holandsfjorden fjord, at the foot of the Svartisen glacier. Promising to be much more than just a place to bed down, the circular structure, which is topped with solar panels, will flaunt a farm-to-table restaurant, indoor-outdoor wellness hub and sound-healing studio. Outdoor enthusiasts, take note: activities on offer will cover everything from ice climbing and fishing to foraging and meditating beneath the starry sky.

Dusk at Drift

hotel

Drift

California, US

Hospitality brand Drift arrived on California's sun-kissed turf in 2021, and it's safe to say it's been making waves ever since. Drift Santa Barbara is set to open in early 2023 on the bustling State Street. Dreamed up by local architecture group Anacapa, original features from the building's 1920s shell have been carefully retained, complementing a fresh, minimalist aesthetic. Rooms, of which there are 45, are decorated in characteristic distressed wood, with plaster walls and brass detailing, while floor-to-ceiling windows allow plenty of natural light to flood in. Menus pay homage to the Golden State's natural larder in the two dining spaces, Dawn and Dusk - the former, an outdoor artisanal coffee house; the latter, a sexy, low-lit cocktail bar.

hotel

De Durgerdam

Durgerdam, Netherlands

Arriving at this lakeside hideout, set amid tall grasses and clapboard cottages, fishing boats and weather-beaten boardwalks, you'd never believe you were only a 15-minute drive from Amsterdam. Housed in a historic, whitewashed timber building that was once an inn for sailors and fisherman, De Durgerdam will offer 14 bedrooms, a snug library, bar, restaurant and waterfront terrace. Headed up by Aedes - the Amsterdam-based group behind the development of Soho House Amsterdam and The Hoxton - the hotel will be packed with thoughtful design details such as headboards made from tree trunks and the sort of rainfall showers that make you go in for a second round of shampoo. The beating heart of the property will be restaurant De Mark, a project conceived by two award-winning chefs, which will serve menus filled with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Hôtel Le Grand Mazarin

Paris, France

First Soho, and then Paris? Martin Brudnizki, you're teasing us. Anchored just a short stroll from the banks of the Seine, Hôtel Le Grand Mazarin is among a slew of exciting Parisian openings (we're looking at you, Hôtel Dame des Arts and TOO Hôtel) and it's one of those decadent dens that make us giddy with excitement - all hand-crafted wallpapers, vintage lampshades, shuttered windows and dazzling decorations (we're renovating our apartment at the mere thought of it). Guests will find references to the legendary literature and music of the surrounding Le Marais neighbourhood in 61 individually designed rooms (including 11 suites), a sublime bar-restaurant and around the knockout swimming pool. Meanwhile, the flamboyant bed curtains, flower-topped bedside tables and seductive lighting have us planning ahead for our next retreat with our main squeeze.

hotel

The Cōmodo

Bad Gastein, Austria

Nestled in the sleepy Austrian town of Bad Gastein, this mountain escape might just be our new favourite wellness destination. Interiors, by Piotr Wisniewski of WeStudio, see local materials used to create a connection with the nature-rich surrounding landscape - elements of which can be traced through pine-panelled walls and oak flooring. While we love the minimalist bedrooms, we think it's the treatment offerings you'll be most excited about. The Cōmodo spa will use essential oils alongside Gastein's naturally healing thermal waters to create tailored sessions. Elsewhere, two saunas, an indoor pool and concentrated plant-based power shots are on hand for a proper detox - meet you there for dry Jan.

Mamula Island Hotel

Bay of Kotor, Montenegro

After one glance at Montenegro's Mamula Island Hotel, we're pegging the tiny Balkan country as our first sun-soaked pit stop of summer 2023. Sitting pretty on a previously uninhabited island, the 19th-century fortress has been renovated by the pioneering architects at MCM London. The original shell has been preserved, and interiors peppered with breathable fabrics, organic textiles and local crafts make for a truly tranquil set-up. While access to the hotel requires a short boat ride, the holistic spa, sun-drenched courtyard, three restaurants, four bars, numerous outdoor pools and a private beach mean there's plenty to keep you occupied once you reach the off-grid location.

The Standard

Singapore

It's no secret that we're borderline obsessed with just about everything that Standard Hotels does. Launching in spring 2023, the group's Singapore debut is enveloped by a lush botanical garden. Built from the ground up, 143 rooms will be decked out with quirky mid-century interiors and playful retro accents courtesy of the Ministry of Design, while an artfully styled infinity pool, restaurant and bar are set to make this a honeypot for creative types. You'll find us flitting between the Orchard Road's glitzy boutiques, before returning for a cocktail whipped up by one of the team's master mixologists.

The Bracken Hide

Isle of Skye, Scotland

Alright, alright, this Hebridean hotel might teeter on the glamping side of the accommodation spectrum, but its cute collection of bothies is sure to elevate the island's staycation appeal. With 45 timber-clad cabins, a whisky-stacked bar, design-driven restaurant, Nordic sauna and cinema, it promises to be the ultimate outdoor retreat. Stay in one of the wilderness cabins, partly for its king-sized bed and underfloor heating, but largely for the undisturbed views across Loch Portree. Anyone brave enough for a wild-swim sesh?
