Discoteca Ouriço

As the sun goes down over Praia dos Pescadores, Discoteca Ouriço turns up the volume on Ericeira’s nightlife. It’s pumped up the jam since the 60s, making it the oldest nightclub on the Iberian Peninsula and an essential part of the Ericeira experience. Themed nights and events are a beacon for partygoers, but it’s the ever-changing murals outside that draw visitors of all persuasions to find their angles in front of its colourful graffiti. For a more low-key evening try Adega Bar 1987 for live folk music and conversations with locals that spill out onto the pavement.

El Chilito

“Chiquito pero picoso” (small but spicy) is the motto at El Chilito, and this taqueria-meets-tequila-bar really punches above its weight in terms of fiesta vibes and big flavours. It’s the lovechild of Estoril’s popular Mexican restaurant Paco Bigotes and Selina, the brand behind high-end hostel Boavista Ericeira. Head to its plant-strung terrace for street-food bites and pitchers of the ChelaRita – for the uninitiated, that’s a bottle of Corona upturned in a margarita. A great thirst quencher.

Magic Quiver

Come to Magic Quiver for single-origin coffee roasted in Lisbon, stick around to browse its studio – a thoughtful approach to the traditional surf shop that incorporates high-spec gear, fashion-forward threads and homewares that take cue from life on the water. Board racks are stacked with brands such as Gary McNeill, Campbell Brothers and Donald Brink, or chat with knowledgeable staff for custom orders and board rental. After a session on the waves, head back to the deli for locally brewed craft beers, wine from family-run vineyards and a small menu of farm-to-fork dishes inspired by global travels.
