The
The
Carry On is our monthly round-up of our favourite travel
items we’d happily haul from Stansted to Seville,
Heathrow to Hydra.
Be it a functional fedora or the latest in skincare science, we’ve
probably got it in our luggage. Riffing on the adage “if you can
think it, you can be it” – we’re saying: “If you can jam it in your
carry on… you can bring it.” Catchy.
Note: weight restrictions and other practicalities do not
apply.
Fee Greening x Alex Eagle Playing Cards
Alex Eagle
Bullshit, the adult alternative to snap. To counter its lude
name, a classier playing card is required. This pack by
London-based artist Fee Greening (in collaboration with Alex Eagle)
fits the bill. From the ace of spades through to the king of hearts
each of the 54 cards are designed in Greening’s distinctive style,
illustrated through a process of old-fashioned quills, dip pens and
ink. Edged with silver, this deck is mega flash – and a great time
passer on lengthy
train journeys.
Marianne Sky Silk Eye Mask, Sky + Rose
YOLKE
If the iridescent glow from your airline’s tubular lighting
creates an in-flight atmosphere that is less than restful, slip on
this sumptuous mask (made from 100% silk) and get some shut-eye.
It’s the perfect companion for any journey on which you’re hoping
to catch some z’s, as well as for keeping out morning rays at your
final destination. For added flair, get yours monogrammed through
Yolke’s online service – which will also make it more difficult for
your friend to pinch it.
Hotel Tonight
App store
Live that Cardi B life – maybe skip the Plaza – and spend,
honey, spend. Let us break it down. Hotels give Hotel Tonight their
unsold rooms, Hotel Tonight shows you each day’s best deals, you
click buy and then scurry off to pack your bags. If you’re less of
a planner and more of a spontaneous adventurer this app
is a lifesaver as well as a cash saver.
Malachite
Venusrox
Malachite is the guardian stone for travellers and when
turbulence gets rough we’re rubbing our green stones and praying to
the travel gods for redemption. If you’re hoping to overcome a fear
of flying or are suffering from jet lag, this gem is a great ally.
Hold one in each hand while flying or keep one in your pocket to
soothe your nerves. A stone of change and transformation – read:
helpful for jet lag – malachite absorbs a lot of energy so make
sure you clear it in between flights.
Officine Universelle Buly Toothbrush
BULY 1803
A tortoiseshell toothbrush handcrafted in Italy sounds like the
property of one suave traveller. Such an object could only be
sourced from Officine Universelle Buly. The Parisian
store, modelled on a 19th-century apothecary, stocks beautifully
packaged lotions, potions and rather striking toothbrushes. This
particular example boasts bristles which are natural silk (which
surprisingly caters to those with a preference for more strength in
their brush). For those who can’t resist a little monogramming,
Officine’s acetate-made toothbrushes can be personalised too.
Packed lunch
Nathalie
For a casual, health-conscious in-flight meal we’re taking a
detour via Hanover
Square en route to Heathrow. Restaurateur Juan Santa Cruz’s (of
Casa Cruz and Isabel notoriety) third instalment, Nathalie, takes
the form of a chic deli-style eatery. Powered by a takeaway app,
we’re all about their Mediterranean bento boxes. Load up for
long-haul or short trips and bypass the loathsome utterance of
“pasta or chicken”?
