Malmö Saluhall

Malmö, Sweden

Opened in late 2016, Malmö Saluhall has helped breathe life into a formerly industrial, and arguably neglected, patch of the city. A lively waterside market in a converted 1800s freight depot, it is the beating heart of Malmö’s artisanal food scene, with vendors offering everything from street food to Swedish produce – think handmade sausages, freshly caught fish and pickled veg. On a balmy summer’s day, head to the Favvo Glass stall and be prepared to never look at ice cream the same way again.

Mani

Malmö, Sweden

For one-offs and retro finds, skip the bland high street stores of Malmö’s main drag and head to the Davidshall neighbourhood, with its huddle of vintage stores and independent boutiques. Founded in 1976, Mani is something of a Malmö institution, dealing in on-trend, pre-loved fashion for women and men. With a focus on quality over quantity, you won’t have to rummage too hard to strike style gold.

Granit

Malmö, Sweden

If Ikea and Muji had a lovechild, it would look something like Granit. It may be a Swedish chain, but what it lacks in individuality it makes up for in satisfying aesthetics and functional, basket-filling appeal. Looking for practical, elegant solutions to help streamline their homes, friends Anett Jorméus and Susanne Lijenberg launched the brand in the late 90s, and today it’s a one-stop-lifestyle-shop that encompasses interiors, stationery and minimalist clothing accessories.
