Lodhi Gardens
Delhi, India
The beautifully landscaped Lodhi Gardens are speckled with historical monuments, bridges and mosques. Widely regarded as the “green lung” of Delhi, it’s as popular a site for ecology (spot kingfishers, babblers and parakeets) and heritage, as it is a gym for the city’s elite (it has a 2km running track). Best avoided on weekends and public holidays – unless you enjoy crowds.

Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Nataraja Centre
Delhi, India
Sivananda are among the world’s most highly regarded ashrams for good reason, and their outpost in Delhi more than does their part. Go for calming open-level yoga classes, workshops for meditation and headstands and, if you’re on a budget, take a free class at 12.30PM on Sundays to introduce you to the Sivananda method. For a more intense workout, head straight for Seema Sondhi’s Ashtanga Vinyasa classes at The Yoga Studio in Hauz Khas Market.

1100 Walks
Delhi, India
These walks have all been designed to showcase what’s innovative and unique in the city (1100 is Delhi’s postal code prefix). You can choose anything from a design-focused tour which will teach you how to drape a sari, to food, nature, history, art and more. If you’re visiting during a festive month – essentially 11 months of the year – their festival-themed walk will give you decent insight into the vibrancy and enthusiasm that goes into an Indian celebration. Walks are generally scheduled twice-monthly, but you can book private tours by appointment.

The imposing building occupies prime position near India Gate – no surprise then, that the previous resident was the Maharaja of Jaipur.

Humayun’s Tomb
Delhi, India
One of the most iconic pieces of Mughal architecture in Delhi, this is a well-worn stop on the tourist trail for good reason. The creation of Emperor Humayun’s tomb was said to have inspired major architectural innovations, including the Taj Mahal. After visiting the tomb itself, make sure to spend some time in the Persian gardens.

Hauz Khas Fort
Delhi, India
Built in the 13th century, this is one of the oldest structures in Delhi and one of the best places to see how green the city is, offering a bird’s eye view of some serious landscapes and a protected lake. It can be one of the more peaceful places to chill put, but if you venture further you’ll hit a very different vibe in the party-centric Hauz Khas market with its throng of bars, shops and restaurants.
