Where to Drink + Dance in Malmö, Sweden

bar

KOL & Cocktails

Malmö, Sweden

With a swish, industrial interior and a laid-back atmosphere, Kol & Cocktails is a smart setting to get your night started or, of course, to hang around until the early hours sampling your way through the perfectly pruned cocktail menu. The bar’s mission to tempt guests away from the traditional also extends to beer, with nearly 30 to try; although perhaps not in one night.

bar

Bastard

Malmö, Sweden

Equally as good for food as for a tipple, when the tables of early evening diners begin to clear and the cocktail crowd grows, this restaurant takes on a boisterous new identity. Although perennially populated by the well dressed, and often well heeled, Bastard is more gastropub than glitzy drinking den. The cocktail menu changes regularly, but is unfailingly superb, featuring inventive mixes served without fuss.

Far i Hatten

Malmö, Sweden

Set in a quaint, eccentrically decorated wooden chalet – that wouldn’t be out of place in the wilds of Sweden – Far i Hatten specialises in natural wine, imaginative cocktails and craft beer. Fairy lights dance above the huge outdoor courtyard, which regularly plays host to live bands and DJs spinning tracks into the wee hours. Set in the middle of Folkets Park, it’s particularly lively in the summer, when fading days give way to carefree dancing on the decking.

Izakaya Koi

Malmö, Sweden

Less low-key than the typical Malmö venue, Koi isn’t for everyone. But with its plush white sofas and “dress up” attitude, it’s a popular city centre destination for those who prefer to kick off their trainers and slip into something less comfortable when the sun goes down. If popping champagne corks and roped off tables aren’t your thing, there’s always the sushi restaurant downstairs, where you can sample the cocktail menu with Japanese bites.
